Disability Access Audits

The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) makes it unlawful for service providers to discriminate against disabled people in connection with employment and the provision of goods, facilities and services. By October 2004 all service providers should have made reasonable adjustments to the physical features of their buildings to ensure disabled people can access the building.

We have experience in undertaking audits to a wide range of buildings including schools, offices, shops, sheltered housing and public buildings.

As experienced DDA assessors, S J Treloar and Associates offer a desk top plan checking service to ensure that proposed developments comply with current standards which include Part M of the Approved Documents and BS8300. We are also able to supplement this desktop exercise with site visits during the construction phase where necessary.

Where clients have a large amount of stock to be assessed, or specific requirements, our team is able to formulate bespoke access audits suited to precise needs. We have undertaken bulk DDA audits for the following clients;

Bolton Institute
Dorset County Council
Oakfern Housing Association
Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council
Salvation Army Housing Association

S J Treloar and Associates is able to help clients with disabled access issues. We can undertake access audits of your premises and provide you with a report detailing access problems for disabled people. We can then follow up the report with advice on the immediate works required and can offer a full project management service.

We are also able to offer guidance on how a building can be managed to overcome physical barriers which cannot be removed. For example, many listed buildings have constraints on the provision of ramps to main entrances; we can assist clients with practical solutions on overcoming these constraints.

This article has been written for the general interest of our clients. It is therefore essential to take advice on specific items.
