S
J Treloar & Associates (Environmental) Ltd provide asbestos
surveyors throughout the UK accredited by the British
Institute of Occupational Hygienists. Our surveyors
have considerable knowledge of construction and its
processes which make us more circumspect and efficient
at identifying possible Asbestos Containing Materials
(ACM's).
The
Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations were extensively
revised in 2002 and introduced the new explicit duty
to manage asbestos in premises. This requires employers,
owners and managers of non-domestic and managed residential
properties to assess the asbestos risk and where relevant
have in place a managed asbestos register. This enables
any future workers to assess the presence of any ACM's
before work is carried out, thus eliminating any damage
or health risk. If properly controlled and maintained
there is no reason why ACM's cannot remain in use for
many years.
Consequences
of not taking action:
H.S.E. inspectors have the power to issue probation
notices closing areas or entire sites.
Directors can be disqualified.
Companies can be fined an unlimited amount and
individuals £20,000.
Responsible individuals can be imprisoned for
up to 2 years.
S
J Treloar & Associates (Environmental) Ltd are able
to undertake survey types to MDHS 100 as set out below.
Type
1 - Presumptive Surveys (Location & Assessments
Survey)
The presumptive survey is a visual assessment of the
presence and quantity of suspected ACM's on a site and
it may make an initial judgement of necessary work.
This survey does not include sampling and testing of
ACM's, this is provided anywhere in the UK, including
Berkshire Oxfordshire, Midlands, Manchester, Bristol,
Hull.
Type
2 - Non-Destructive Surveys
As Type 1 a visual survey is undertaken, however this
is supplemented with a representative collection of
sampling and testing of ACM's. This survey is developed
using digital imaging and risk assessment, from which
we are able to advise on any appropriate course of action
for any ACM's positively identified.
Type
3 - Destructive Surveys
Any building that is to be demolished or extensively
refurbished will require a destructive survey. This
type of survey will locate and describe all ACM's in
the building and may involve destructive inspection
as necessary to gain access to all areas. A full sampling
programme is undertaken and estimates of the volume
and surface area of the ACM's made.
All
our surveys and sampling techniques for suspected ACM's
are carried out in accordance with the requirements
of the Health and Safety Executive guidance document
'MDHS 100'. All samples obtained are sent to an independent
UKAS accredited laboratory for analysis.
Successful
management of ACM's is based on the effective identification,
inspection and the implementation of an effective management
programme. Working alongside your own staff, we can
review your existing management plan and risk assessment
and update your records with any noted deterioration,
or further asbestos which has been revealed since the
original survey.
