Disability Access Audits

Disability Access Audits were introduced to assist property owners in identifying physical barriers to property, which might lead to discrimination in the provision of goods and services, employment and housing. The Disability Discrimination Act 1996 has subsequently been replacement with the Equality Act 2010 however obligations not to discriminated remain essentially the same.

slide7Trained by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance (CIPFA), S J Treloar & Associates have a long standing record of undertaking disability access audits across a wide range of predominantly public sector stock, including public buildings, libraries, offices, schools, leisure facilities, and even public toilets. The Practice continues to deliver Access Audits to a wide range of clients, including town and district councils, housing associations and schools.

Having delivered an Access Audit, the client might require some assistance in determining whether physical alteration to a property are the most appropriate way to address an issue of discrimination, or whether the adoption of a management solution would be appropriate based on a test of reasonableness and levels of proposed financial expenditure.

SJ Treloar & Associates have also been appointed Access consultants to numerous large scale hostel redevelopments across the country, ensuring that the design team adequately anticipate the requirements of the building regulations BS 8300 and other pertinent advice.
